Asking for a LinkedIn recommendation

Make it super easy for someone to say yes, and pay it forward. You can offer to write a draft or you can add a draft to the email. Another option is to offer to provide a recommendation in return. Asking for specific things they’d like you to include will increase your chances of getting a response.

When you write your email to this person, give them context about what you are looking for within the recommendation. For example, are you switching jobs from a financial analyst to project manager? Then, ask for specific feedback around key skills required of a project manager.

If you’re connected on LinkedIn, you can use the “Ask to Be Recommended” button at the bottom of your profile. Simply follow the prompts and copy and paste your awesome template to the note. (See these two templates from The Muse.)
