The Columbo Effect

One of my favorite '70s television shows is “Columbo.” Columbo was a homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. His signature move was to trap the suspect with “one last question.” Just when they thought they were in the clear and let their guard down, Lt. Columbo would hit ‘em with a seemingly innocent thought or observation, the mystery zinger.

Don’t let this happen to you! It’s not over till it’s over. Those last few seconds, the parting words, can blow the whole interview. Don’t let your guard down. Be super careful when things get casual.
